hi there! welcome to a sweet little preview of sarah and josh’s recent morning wedding in wake forest, nc.  i had the pleasure of shooting sarah’s sister’s wedding a couple years ago (hi, jenny and cad!) and really enjoyed getting to see their family again!

so…where to start? so much to say about this day!… Sarah is an artist; she owns and operates Bella Joviality Stationery and designed the stationery suite, all the signage and the favors (so cute!).  her artful touch was all over – the ceremony, the place settings, the lawn games – ALL the details and thought sarah put into making this such a memorable and beautiful day.  the rain waited until after the ceremony (yay!) and showed up for a bit of the reception, but it didn’t dampen the crowd’s spirits….such a great bunch! The music was incredible thanks to the patrick rock band…two guys with guitars have to be pretty talented to entertain a tent full of people, and they did!! This venue is a little gem in the raleigh area – the sutherland – if you’re getting married in the triangle, it’s absolutely worth a look! Oh, and HOW could i forget?!….their “getaway” car…a bright red ferrari! such a unique day – it was truly yours, sarah and josh! congratulations and hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon out west!!

hugs, m

we love crafty brides (and grooms and moms and uncles…all the people that help make a DIY wedding all it can be!). there are SO many great ideas out there. we say “kudos!” to those brides not pinned-in to what you’ve seen somewhere else AND “kudos!” to those who put their own spin on an already-been-done idea! it takes a lot of energy and creativity to pull off DIY decor, but here’s a little dose of inspiration/ideas you can take and run with for your day!

(also, this post was inspired by this katie daisy print)

so, I was recently talking to a friend that doesn’t feel like she and her boyfriend have the means to tie the knot in the style they’d like. in other words, broke….

we get that, it was important to Graham and I to not go into debt for our wedding. So, after we dipped into savings and had help from our very generous families (thank y’all, we love you!), we didn’t have to!  it wasn’t the fanciest affair, but it suited the two of us.  we got married under a great big tree, the trains didn’t even come by during the ceremony, and we spent the evening celebrating with our friends and family – ah-mazing! (see dan & amelia’s beautiful blog post here).

so what if you don’t want to wait long enough to host a huge event? or you’re sick and tired of planning? or your funds just aren’t there for the fete you’d like?

enter:  surprise wedding!

we haven’t been lucky enough to shoot one of these – YET – (if you’re thinking about it – holla – we’ll give you a good deal!) but lots of photographers have been :)

I feel funny taking their pics and putting them on our site, so just follow these links:

first, lemme say to all our dedicated blog followers (hi, mom!) – sorry i missed last week. the yucky head cold that’s been going around (and around) finally caught up with the suggs household. thankfully, we’re (mostly) all on the mend. also, start looking forward to some fresh images in the coming weeks. so far we’ve only done bridals and second shooting….but we’ll be in full wedding mode soon!

ANYwho, this huff post bit* that a sweet recent bride of ours (thanks, kara!) shared with us last week reminded us a- why we do this and b- that the wedding isn’t the end. it’s when the real fun starts! (no, seriously, it gets better!)

Graham & I celebrated 3 amazing years of marriage this past september and before we got married it was important to us to go through a premarriage “counseling”. we were paired with an awesome couple in our church who’d already been married a good long while (like, 20+ years). they encouraged us and asked sometimes awkward questions, but we are still glad we did it.

to botch the t. roosevelt quote “nothing worth doing is easy” and the first year was hard. no joke. during that year another great couple encouraged us to read the book love and respect. it. was. paradigm shifting. we recommend it to friends getting married. a lot.

another one that’s really eye-opening is the five love languages. there are a bunch of versions, but the original’s a good place to start.

i also ran across this article over at she walks in beauty about some good pre-marriage/newlywed books. i can’t vouch for these suggestions, but those could be worth checking out, too: saving your marriage before it starts & the most important year in a man/woman’s life.

and while i’m giving out unsolicited advice, let me share some i give almost all of our brides. this wedding day advice came from my former boss (he has 4 daughters, so he gets it)…it was something like this: “inevitably something will go wrong, just keep smiling and remember at the end of the day you’ll be married!” words to remember on your special day when the bottom drops out of the clouds, all your flowers are wilted by 11am before your 5pm ceremony or the flower girl picks her nose during the entire ceremony…..or something….*wink, wink*

thanks for reading, and as always, we wish you the very best! on your wedding day and beyond!!!

hugs,

m
